Parish Link

Parish Link

The Parish Link weekly newsletter was first published in 1993 following an initiative from the Dublin Diocese called ‘Parish Development and Renewal.' This group when set up looked at all the aspects of our parish and its needs and implemented a number of ideas to meet these needs.

The Iona News was already in place at this time, but it was only available once a month. The Link was conceived to bring the people of the Parish weekly updates on happenings in the parish and local community.

Patricia Close, Bernie O'Reilly, Caroline Douglas and Sheila Hallahan agreed to take on the task of producing the ‘Link' and what an onerous task this was at the time. It was produced each week by the team on their own computers. The only means of copying it at the time was by using the photocopier in the parish office. This took about 5 hours every Saturday as the machine was very temperamental and often over heated and refused to work!!! Luckily the team persevered and following the purchase of a new printer the task was reduced to 20 minutes- phew!! The team were joined by Ann Coyle, Teresa Murphy and Assumpta Meehan over the years. During the summer of 2010 Sheila decided to take a break from doing the link and we would like to thank her so much for all her work over the years. And so the call went out to the parish looking for help and Geraldine Keartland, Niamh O Neill and Sheila Smith answered that call with the continued help of Patricia Close and Ann Coyle the link goes on!

Over the past 16 years the format of the Link has not changed much. The purpose of the Link is to do just that - to link the parishioner to events going on in the parish. Some weeks there are so many notices that it is quite a task to fit them all in, however we would urge all involved in any activities in the parish to keep The Link in mind when looking for support.
